For my project, I wanted to use a projection to bring my thoughts to life. Originally, I planned to create an animation of what goes through my head and have it just projected on a wall. I really wanted convey my head space throughout this pandemic and how my thoughts have been scrambled and have been all over the place.

I was thinking about the spaces and how I can bring my headspace into the the real world and make it an immersive environment for people. I was thinking about how people are able to process their thoughts in different ways and want others to see how my thoughts reside in my head, floating and wondering around and wanted to emphasis how my mindset has been during this pandemic.

Initial Sketches

Process: Brainstorming

  • Because of the pandemic my mind has gotten more and more scattered
  • Scatter of random letters that don’t make words or don’t make sense
  • Typeface: Baskerville
  • Space: inside a room that is empty or spacious
  • Possibly use a projector to create a 3D space and be able to kind of interact with the letters and set into this empty space

I decided to use the font Baskerville because initially when I look at this font, I think of a written diary and wanted to create this intimate, yet surreal immersive enviroment of my mind. Baskerville was designed by John Baskerville in 1757 in England. Baskerville is used a lot today in academic publications. It’s transitional style has a clean look to it that has a bit of old-style flair; but that is also where the font’s personality lies.

Here is the final results of my project. At first it was difficult for me to find a space that was empty and big enough to be able to project my animation. After going back and forth from the CFA to 808 I was able to find an empty room that had enough space for me to be able to project over a large area and fill the space with my thoughts. The first video presents the final iteration of my project, creating an immersive and interactive space with the thoughts in my mind. This also represents my headspace and how it can be scattered and chaotic at times trying to process information and my thoughts. As seen, I am pacing back and forth wondering around the area emphasizing how I sometimes can get lost within my own thoughts.

The second video shown is a walk through of the immersive space and how the projection can be seen up close and from afar. I filmed the video as if one would be walking through the projection and being able to experience my thoughts.
